Janusz Morgenstern (28 October 1922 – 6 September 2011) was a Polish film director, screenwriter, and actor. He is one of the most prominent figures of the Polish cinema of the postwar period. Morgenstern was born in Warsaw, Poland. During World War II, he was a member of the Polish resistance and fought in the Warsaw Uprising. After the war, he studied acting and directing at the State Higher School of Theatre and Film in Łódź. He directed over 30 films and his works were characterized by social themes and sharp criticism of the Communist regime in Poland. His notable films include "Eroica" (1958), "Goodbye, See You Tomorrow" (1960), and "The Art of Loving" (1989). He received numerous awards for his work, including the Golden Palm award at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival for "Goodbye, See You Tomorrow".
